Pokemon GO fans the world over are currently participating in the game's Halloween 2017 event, which includes double candy and a huge increase in ghost-type Pokemon. However, the Pokemon GO Halloween event has also increased the spawn rate of one Pokemon that has nothing to do with the spooky season.

Pokemon GO players in tropical regions have discovered that the second generation water/rock-type Pokemon Corsola now accounts for almost all of the spawns in some areas. At the time of this writing, Niantic has yet to explain why Corsolas are appearing in tropical areas in such vast quantities, but there is one prevailing theory.

Corsola's increased spawn rate seems to have kicked in over the course of this past weekend, when Niantic fixed an issue with ghost-type Pokemon not spawning properly at water biomes. Therefore it's possible that Niantic accidentally caused this huge increase in Corsola spawns while it was trying to make its Halloween event work properly for Pokemon GO players that live in tropical regions.

Whether or not this change was on purpose remains to be seen, but fans will have their answer if Corsola spawn rates return to normal. If Corsola spawn rates stay like this for the duration of Pokemon GO's Halloween event, then it's possible Niantic did this on purpose, and it's not a glitch like many have speculated.

Since Corsola really has nothing to do with the theme of the event, the most likely scenario is that its increased spawn rate is a mistake that will be fixed in a future patch. In the meantime, Pokemon GO players in tropical areas may want to take advantage of Corsola's increased spawn rate to add the somewhat rare creature to their Pokedex if they haven't already. Those that already have this particular second generation Pokemon shouldn't worry about trying to load up on Corsola candy, though, as it doesn't evolve into anything.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
