Pokemon GO players may soon be able to participate in several popular events once again, according to a recent datamine. Pokemon events, including the Pokemon Contest which allows trainers to present their Pokemons and three-Pokemon teams, were last held as part of the Pokemon GO Tour: Johto Contest competition in January 2022. The upcoming possible contest is teased to focus on "comparing sizes" of the competing Pokemon.

Pokemon Contests were first introduced in the Gen 3 Pokemon games and were brought to Pokemon GO in 2022 as part of the Johto Tour. Contest events are typically held in a dedicated Contest Hall, with different categories such as Cool, Cute, and Tough, in which trainers and their Pokemon compete to show off their skills. In the Johto Tour, players were judged based on the themes, composition, and inventiveness of their avatar design. The top winners were then selected to move on to the next round, where they competed against one another with their Pokemon teams.

The datamine was conducted by PokeMiners, a group that delves deep into the code of Pokemon GO with each update. In the "Contests Are Back" portion of their breakdown, it discusses several details that offer a better indication of how the contests might proceed. One key detail is that players will receive rewards for each event and will need to claim their rewards. This suggests that the contests will provide in-game rewards, rather than simply allowing players to briefly become NPCs in an event.

Another detail mentioned in the datamine is that a player's chances of winning a contest may depend on the size of their Pokemon. These new actions specifically check the size. So be sure to save on to all those useless XXL and XXS mons. They are about to become a little less useless,” states PokeMiners. Seasons were also mentioned as having an impact on the contests, and the game's code contained references to a schedule. This suggests that the contests may remain in the game permanently, similar to the GO Battle League.

Pokemon GO players should keep an eye out for the possible return of Pokemon Contests, and the potential for in-game rewards and a new twist on the classic event is sure to be a welcome addition to the game. It's important to note that while the datamine suggests the return of Pokemon Contests, there is currently no official word from the developers of Pokemon GO on whether this will actually happen. With the recent Pokemon Go updates, which has upset many players, it remains to be seen how the contests will be received by players.
