Niantic has announced that the Pokemon GO Community Day Pokemon for October will be Litwick, the Ghost and Fire-type Pokemon. This Community Day will mark the debut of Litwick's shiny form to the game.

Pokemon GO keeps with its Season of Light theme by using a Pokemon with ghastly origins, choosing Litwick, which is shaped like a candle but has darker connotations being a Ghost and Fire-type Pokemon. As with other Community Day Pokemon, Litwick's shiny form will have increased odds. Litwick first came to the game in 2019 but has been hard to find outside of events featuring Ghost-type Pokemon. Even then, the spawn rate of Litwick was not as high as other Pokemon.

Litwick Community Day will be on October 15 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. regional time, and the event will have special catch bonuses. Some things to expect are triple catch XP, double Litwick candy after the catch, increased chance for double the amount of XL Candy received for trainers level 31 or higher, and longer lure and incense duration extended to 3 hours. Friends will be able to trade Pokemon at reduced cost and can perform two special trades during Community Day hours. There will also be extended chances for shiny hunting Litwick after the Community Day hours. Trainers that do in-person 4-star Lampert raids will get increased Litwick spawns for 30 minutes and 300 meters of the raid gym after it ends with the Community Day shiny spawn rate.

Litwick's final form, Chandelure, will learn a unique Community Day move in Poltergeist, the first time the move will become available in Pokemon GO. This move has the potential to be one of the best ghost-type charged moves, reliant on the combination of quick moves and Pokemon IVs. If strong enough, it could make Chandelure useful against Psychic-type raids like Mega-Alakazam. The addition of Poltergeist could also move Chandelure closer to being one of the best Ghost-type attackers under mega evolution Ghost-type Pokemon.

As is standard for Pokemon GO Community Day events, there will be a ticket for the Special Research Story path in the shop for $1.00 (or regional equivalent) that will offer extra opportunities for gaining Litwick candy and shiny Litwick as well as premium items like star pieces.

An event featuring Litwick in Pokemon GO has been long-awaited. It arguably has one of the better shiny variations in the game throughout its entire evolutionary line. Pokemon GO trainers can only hope the odds fall in their favor and hopefully collect not only shiny Litwicks but ones with favorable IVs they can use in raids and show off in gyms.

Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS.
