Pokemon GO players powered through the Mew Special Research when the quest line launched a few months ago and since then trainers have been waiting for the next major task. Daily Field Research has been enough to keep players busy in the short term, but a new Special Research chain of quests would definitely catch the attention of players who are starting to forget about the game. Luckily, the next big challenge is right around the corner.

A recent datamine suggested that Celebi was on the way to the game and it appears that the data didn't lie. Although Niantic isn't ready to confirm a start date for the next Pokemon GO Special Research just yet, the company did confirm that it would be arriving very soon.

Here's a look at the teaser, which was buried at the bottom of the Pokemon GO Live post about the game's second anniversary event.

"We’ve heard so many amazing stories from Trainers, and we can’t wait for what’s on the horizon. We’re excited to announce that Special Research on the Mythical Pokémon Celebi will be available globally in the near future. So stay tuned, Trainers, and get out there and GO!"

The addition of another Mythical Pokemon is a big deal for the game and players are guaranteed to start powering through the special tasks as soon as the new quest line goes live.

There's no way to tell what the post means by "the near future" so any guesses would just be speculation. That said, the datamine seemed to suggest that Special Research would be live before the end of July. We'll continue to monitor the game for changes and post an update as soon as the Special Research is available to begin.

Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
