Pokemon GO's first Community Day event is officially underway (at least in most parts of the world)! The one-day event offers players the chance to catch a special Pikachu variant with the Surf move as a throwback to Pokemon Yellow, but that's not the only thing Pokemon GO players are hunting down this morning...

In addition to the other advertised bonuses like Surf Pikachu, extended lures, and maybe even the chance to trigger special raids; players are also discovering that there is an increased spawn rate of shiny Pikachu in the game today.

Shiny Pokemon are only aesthetically different, but hardcore fans of the game love showing off the ultra rare shiny creatures in their collection. Considering the general popularity of Pikachu, it should come as no surprise that gamers are particularly fond of collecting every possible variation of the creature.

For players who have already managed to collect Pikachu in all of his special hats, but haven't added a shiny to the collection yet, Community Day just got a lot more exciting. There doesn't seem to be a trick to triggering the appearances and there's no special way to catch a shiny, so just get out to a park and start hunting.
