After briefly appearing earlier this week as a mistake, the first Collection Challenge is now officially live in Pokemon GO. The new type of challenge offers Pokemon trainers the chance to catch a collection of specific Pokemon during a limited window of time for the chance to unlock item rewards and progress on the new Elite Collector medal.

The appearance of the new challenge type has led to some confusion for players as they first spot it in Pokemon GO, but it's actually a fairly simple concept. The Collection Challenges will automatically appear in the PoGO Today View when one is live. From there, players should be able to see every Pokemon that they still need to catch in order to complete the challenge, as well as a countdown explaining how many days and hours they have left to finish.

The first Collection Challenge puts a spotlight on some Unova region Pokemon that usually are a little harder to find. Thanks to the increased spawn rates associated with the current in-game Unova event though, this challenge should be fairly easy to complete this week. Players who manage to complete the Unova Collection Challenge by catching Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Lillipup, Herdier, Roggenrola, Solosis, Ferroseed, and Blitzle will receive a reward of Stardust, 25 Poke Balls, and 5 Rare Candy. That's not the craziest lineup of rewards, so it may end up that the progress through the Elite Collector medal is the bigger motivation.

"To get started on a Collection Challenge, open the Today View to see which Pokémon are part of that challenge. Each challenge will disappear once its corresponding in-game event ends, so do your best to collect all the Pokémon in the challenge before then! As you complete Collection Challenges featured in different in-game events, you’ll be able to earn rewards and add to your new Elite Collector medal!"

As the next few weeks continue and Pokemon GO continues revisiting each generation that has been released so far, there will very likely be other Collection Challenges that appear in the Today View for players to power through as each event comes and goes. Although the rewards aren't very exciting, this also seems like the type of challenge that players may easily complete without even trying just by playing the game on a daily basis during events. We'll continue monitoring how the challenge plays out and what sort of community feedback it gets over the coming week.

As trainers continue working through these amazing events and enjoying the early days of the GO Beyond update, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
