Following the success of April’s Community Day for Pokemon GO, which allowed players to capture shiny Mareep as well as evolve a special Ampharos with the Dragon Pulse ability, fans of the game are now turning their attention to May’s offering. According to the Japanese Pokemon GO Live Site this may feature Charmander, the generation 1 fire-type starter Pokemon, and will supposedly take place on May 19.

The speculation arises as a result of a direct translation from the Japanese version of April's Mareep Community Day page on the Pokemon GO website. The statement reads as follows:

"At 'Pokemon GO Community Day', we provide opportunities for trainers to meet new trainers and to feel local community more strongly once a month. This event is a special day when a certain amount of a certain Pokemon occurs once a month, for several hours. In addition, special bonus in the game is planned, so please look forward to it!

When you evolve from Lizard to Rizhaudon between May 19 (Sat) 12: 00-15: 00, that Lizardard will remember special work. Even during the event holding time, you can not use 'Waza Machine Normal' or 'Waza Machine Special' to remember special works."

The Japanese words for Charmeleon and Charizard directly translate to Lizard and Rizhaudon, and the “special work” could certainly be a reference to an as yet unannounced exclusive move.

Regardless of whether or not this information is accurate, it should not be too long before the community knows what’s next for the special event. In total there have been four community days preceding the upcoming one in May, and the usual format for announcements is that they tend to arrive two days after the previous event. If this trend continues fans can expect to hear some news in the next day or two for more specific regional times for the event.

It is important to note that this speculation is by no means a confirmation, and there are a number of reasons why this information may not be reliable. Firstly these details are only available as a direct translation from the Mareep Community Day page on the Japanese version of the website, whereas the Pokemon GO Live website for other countries merely contains a generic placeholder. There are some other irregularities in the announcement, chiefly that it was posted at 3am Japan time which is unusual. Information regarding important events for Pokemon GO has never been announced in this manner and it should be taken with a pinch of salt until more concrete evidence is available in the near future.
