Unova Week is currently active in Pokemon GO for players all around the world. This event has introduced multiple Pokemon from the Unova region into Pokemon GO, such as Cottonee and Emolga.

This event has additionally brought back Genesect for 5-Star raids. Pokemon GO players can catch this dual bug and steel-type in order to bring it onto their teams. Genesect is useful for future raids as well as PVP battling.

Because of Genesect's power and status as the subject of a 5-Star raid, it will prove to be a very tough Pokemon to take down for some trainers. For this reason, players are highly recommended to form their party around Genesect's unique typing and not challenge it alone.

Pokemon Shiny Genesect

Genesect is a dual bug and steel-type, meaning that it only has one weakness that players can take advantage of during raids. This weakness of course is fire. Of course, this means that players that want to take down Genesect will need to use their best fire-type Pokemon and fire-type moves.

The best Pokemon to bring along are:

  • Reshiram - Fire Fang and Overheat
  • Chandelure - Fire Spin and Overheat
  • Darmanitan - Fire Fang and Overheat
  • Moltres - Fire Spin and Overheat
  • Blaziken - Fire Spin and Blast Burn
  • Heatran - Fire Spin and Flamethrower

When catching Genesect after the battle, its CP will normally be in the range of 1833 - 1916. However, if players beat Genesect while the weather is either rainy or snowy, it will have boosted CP. This CP range is 2292 - 2395.

Some players might get lucky after defeating Genesect and encounter a shiny Genesect. Its shiny form has been just introduced into the game for this event, so players who are able to should attempt Genesect's raid multiple times to try and encounter it. Players will be able to tell that they are facing a shiny Genesect by its bright red color scheme.

After catching Genesect, it is capable of learning the fast moves Fury Cutter and Metal Claw. It can also learn the charge moves Hyper Beam, X Scissor, and Magnet Bomb.

Players that get their party wiped by Genesect don't need to worry as long as there's still time left in the raid. Players can bring in new Pokemon to continue the fight after their party has been wiped or use restoration items such as revives and potions to bring their original party back up to full health. If there aren't enough people participating in the raid, party wipes are to be expected.
