Every trainer wants to live the mantra of Gotta catch em' all especially in Pokemon GO. With over 890 pocket monsters for players to catch, it can be a bit difficult to track them all down.

One such Pokemon that's difficult to get on a trainer's team is an Eelektross. Getting one requires players to first hunt down a Tynamo and then be able to evolve it all the way up which is easier said than done.

How To Catch Tynamo

A trainer in rainy weather in Pokemon GO.

Tynamo were originally available during a special event called Charge Up which occurred back in March 2021. While it was originally available as a Research Task Reward, came from eggs, and could even be caught in raids, it is no longer as easy to find. Thankfully, there are a few ways to try and increase players' chances of finding one.

Search For Tynamo When It's Raining

Weather in the real world affects which types of Pokemon show up in Pokemon GO. Players will want to make sure they pack an umbrella to hunt for Tynamo as Electric types appear more often in rainy weather.

Search For Tynamo In The Right Biome

Pokemon are more likely to appear in certain biomes in the game. These biomes are dictated by the natural elements in an area. For example, players are more likely to find water types if they are near a lake where players looking for fighting types will have an easier time at sports stadiums or large gyms (in the real world, not in the game).

Electric types like Tynamo are more likely to show up in industrial areas. These include places with a lot of concrete that are typically dryer areas. Schools and campuses can be a great choice to search near if players don't live near an industrial park.

Bring Along The Right Tools

While Tynamo only has a 10% flee rate, players will want to make sure they have the right tools to make sure they don't escape — especially if they are lucky enough to encounter a shiny one. Players will likely be fine using a Great Ball, but Ultra Balls thrown with a curveball will guarantee the highest chance for success. Make sure to use a Razz Berry (or even a Golden Razz Berry) as well to really ensure Tynamo will be caught.

How To Evolve Tynamo

Tynamo is a three-stage evolution Pokemon, meaning players will need to evolve it twice in order to get an Eelektrik and then an Eelektross. It's also worth noting that Eelektrik do not appear in the wild so players have no choice but to take the full evolutionary path. This requires players to have quite a few Tynamo candies and even a special item in order to do.

  • Tyanmo - Eelektrik: 25 Candies
  • Eelektrik - Eelektross: 100 Candies + Unova Stone

There are many ways players can get candies quickly including:

  • Making a Tynamo, Eelektrik, or Eelektross their walking buddy.
  • Transferring Tynamo the player doesn't intend to evolve to Professor Willow.
  • Trading Tynamo to other players.
  • Using a Pinap Berry (Or Silver Pinapp Berry) when catching Tynamo.
  • Use Rare Candies

How To Get A Unova Stone

The trickiest part of fully evolving a Tynamo into an Eelektross is getting an Unova Stone. These are quite rare and can only be found in two ways.

Both of these methods have an extremely low chance of giving the players a Unova Stone however, so trainers should make sure to choose the Tynamo they want to evolve carefully. Players should make sure to appraise their Pokemon with their Team Leaders and choose the Tynamo that boasts the best stats.
