The final days of the Season of Light are slipping away, but there are still a few events and activities to keep players busy before the next Pokemon GO season arrives on December 1. This week is sure to be full of excitement surrounding the Ultra Beast appearances, but there's something for fans of PvP to focus on, as well.

The closing days of the Season of Light offer Pokemon GO trainers a chance to show off everything they've caught, powered up, and evolved during the last three months. The Catch Cup runs through December 1 at 1pm PT and trainers are going to be able to battle against each other with some limited roster rules to earn prizes and rewards.

The catch to the Season of Light Catch Cup is that only Pokemon caught during the Season of Light are eligible to be included on rosters. There is also a 1500 CP max rule to keep most of the Legendaries out of the picture. That means players have a very limited list of eligible Pokemon and will need to get creative to come up with a strong and competitive roster...

Season of Light Catch Cup Rules

  • Pokemon must be at or below 1500 CP to enter.
  • Only Pokemon caught during the Season of Light (after September 1 2022 at 10:00 am) are eligible.

General Season of Light Catch Cup Tips

  • Extra Charge Move is worth the investment - Adds a second charge move greatly increases the flexibility of any PvP Pokemon selection and will be a requirement for top tier teams
  • 1500 CP - Don't let opposing teams enter with a big CP advantage. Players should get each member of their team as close to 1500 CP (without going over!) as possible.
  • Variety - Just like in any PvP battle, players should try to build a diverse party so that one shared weakness doesn't defeat the whole party during an unfortunate match up.

That should be just about everything players need to know to remain competitive in the Season of Light Catch Cup. Be sure to check back in the near future for lots more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
