One aspect of many Pokemon games that certain players are fond of are shiny Pokemon, with Pokemon GO being no exception. As different Pokemon are implemented into the game however, their shiny forms often aren't added at the same time.

A good example of Pokemon that still don't have their shiny forms in Pokemon GO  as of January 2021 are the Pokemon from the Kalos region. With how recently they were implemented in the game, none of them have the chance to be encountered in their shiny forms at all.

One of the best bets when wondering if a Pokemon is available as a shiny in Pokemon GO is to consider its generation. The further back the generation, the more likely it is to have been already been added. However, this may make fans of generation five's Lillipup worry about Lillipup's shiny status.

Pokemon Lillipup

Lillipup is a pure normal-type Pokemon with all of its evolutionary line sharing the same pure normal-type. This Pokemon can evolve into Herdier, which then can evolve into Stoutland. Despite being from a more recent generation, Lillipup fans will be glad to know that Lillipup can be found as a shiny in Pokemon GO. Compared to other shiny Pokemon however, Lillipup's alternate color palette is more on the subtle side.

Shiny Lillipups are more on the golden-yellow side rather than a normal Lillipup's browns. The patch of fur on Lillipup's back also gains a new green tint instead of a black tint. These changes mostly transfer to Lillipup's evolution, Herdier, except for the dark fur which becomes a lighter grey instead of a blueish black. Lillipup's final evolution, Stoutland, however gains bright yellow facial fur and gains dark green back fur.

Even though Lillipup and its evolutions have their shiny forms, the Unova starters and their evolutionary lines still don't have their shiny forms implemented. It may actually take some time for many of Unova's Pokemon to get their shiny forms.

The following Unova Pokemon can be acquired as a shiny in Pokemon GO as of January 2021:

  • Patrat and Watchog
  • Lillipup, Herdier, and Stoutland
  • Pidove, Tranquill, and Unfezant
  • Roggenrola, Boldore. and Gigalith

The Lillipup Spotlight Hour will begin on Tuesday, January 5 at 6:00 PM in players' local times. Players will be able to use the opportunity to hunt for many Lillipups as well as possibly find a couple of shiny ones. With the color subtlety however, players will need to keep their eyes out and pay attention.
