The wait is over and Bidoof Day is finally here in Pokemon GO! Starting at 10am local time, players around the world can begin enjoying the special spawns, features, and bonuses associated with the 10 hour long event in Pokemon GO. In addition to the rest of the activities, players will also have a short Special Research storyline to work through and this one has a pretty exciting twist.
Unlike the usual linear path of a Pokemon GO Special Research, the Bidoof Day Special Research chain actually features branching paths. This means that after players finish the first series of quests, they will be present with two options forward that (in this case) provide slightly different rewards. A similar choice will need to be made heading into stage 3 of the chain quests, as well.
The branching paths are a very interesting mechanic and many fans are already looking forward to see how Niantic might use them again in the future. This time around the tasks remain the same on either branch and only the rewards are different, but in the future it seems possible that players could be faced with different tasks depending on which path is taken. This provides all kinds of interesting gameplay opportunities to add flavor to events and to give players who prefer one thing over the other (maybe PvP versus PvE raids) their own paths through longer Special Research chains.

The rewards aren't incredible this time around, but that's to be expected for a shorter chain quest. That said, collectors and fans of cosmetic items are likely going to want to power through the full chain to unlock that Bidoof Avatar Hat anyway. Most of the quests are very easy (assuming players take advantage of the special event spawns), so be sure to log in and start catching Bidoof at 10am to have the best chance of wrapping things up early.
