There are a few possible Pokemon that can appear as a Mega Raid boss in Pokemon GO depending on the current rotation. The current three Pokemon to possibly serve as one are Mega Venusaur, Mega Ampharos, and Mega Houndoom.

While Pokemon GO players can raise and evolve their own Venusaur themselves, they can also get a fully evolved one by challenging its Mega Raid. This Pokemon is incredibly useful in PVE and PVP whether or not it is mega evolved.

Venusaur is a dual grass and poison-type Pokemon native to the Kanto region. It is weak to fire, flying, ice, and psychic-type moves while also resisting fighting, water, electric, fairy, and grass-type moves. After mega evolving, Venusaur keeps its typing, weaknesses, and resistances.

Mega Raid Rotation

Players can obtain a Venusaur via evolution by using 25 Bulbasaur candies on a Bulbasaur in order to evolve it into Ivysaur. Then players can use 100 Bulbasaur candies on their Ivysaur in order to evolve it into Venusaur.

While there are multiple event variations for Venusaur's first evolutionary stage, Bulbasaur, players cannot evolve them. This means that there is no event hat Venusaur for the Halloween costume cosmetic, red party hat, or the Pikachu visor. The only event variation for Venusaur is the Clone Venusaur that was available through Pokemon Day 2020.

Venusaur has the choice between two different fast moves and six different choices for charge moves. There is a best choice though for Venusaur's best moveset to take advantage of maximum DPS. This moveset is:

  • Fast Move - Vine Whip
  • Charge Move - Frenzy Plant

While Vine Whip can be easily taught to Venusaur with a fast TM, getting Frenzy Plant can be a bit more tricky. This is due to Frenzy Plant being considered to be an elite move in Pokemon GO. Outside of events, the only way to get Venusaur to learn Frenzy Plant is by using an elite charged TM on it. These can be obtained by participating in the GO Battle League.

If players are unable to get an elite charged TM, there is are two other moves can serve as substitutes. While they aren't as effective as Frenzy Plant in PVE and PVP, Solar Beam and Petal Blizzard can help deal out good amounts of damage.

Like many of the other Pokemon from the Kanto region, players have the chance to get a shiny Venusaur. The most likely way of doing this is by catching a shiny Bulbasaur, which is a different shade of green from a normal Bulbasaur. Being a shiny Pokemon does not affect the Pokemon's stats whatsoever and is only a cosmetic difference.

Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS.
