Even though Stardust is now available in Pokemon GO Gifts, the precious resource is still always in limited supply. Trainers have to be incredibly careful how they invest their Stardust, especially as new generations continue to be released and shift the metagame.

That said, there are some Pokemon who trainers can rely on being useful throughout the coming generations. Pokemon GO players should always be cautious about not wasting their Stardust and Candy, but these Pokemon are the best of their types and safe to power up without worry that they'll be replaced when Gen 4 arrives.

According to research by the reddit community and Sruruguay these Pokemon are still going to be at the top of the metagame even after the next generation arrives...

Although there are 'budget' alternatives to all of these Pokemon, they are definitely the A-team when it comes to taking down tough Battle Raid bosses in a hurry. Any of these five equipped with the right moveset are incredibly powerful. Combine that with the right weather boost and they have the potential to put out massive DPS in the right Raid.

Tyranitar is no longer in short supply for most players thanks to Community Day and Raikou will also be in heavier rotation thanks to the August Research Breakthrough rewards. The other three are likely still in short supply for the average player.
