Now that the May 2022 Pokemon GO calendar of events is available, trainers are able to start planning for the big Alola season finale. Things are already off to an exciting start with big events and activities underway. In addition to the Electrify the Sky research that players may be working through, some fans may be getting ready for some big Mega Battle Raids, as well.

Latios and Latias initially appeared in Pokemon GO raids a few years ago, but now they're back and in Mega form. Obviously the fight is going to be even tougher now that the Pokemon are in their Mega forms, but there are also a lot of new Pokemon, evolutions, and move sets available to assemble a powerful counter roster. For players who still have an older, non-mega counter roster saved for Latios and Latias, now would be an ideal time to do some updating before the fight.

Luckily, keeping counters straight should be pretty easy since the pair of Mega bosses share their typing pairs. Trainers should revisit their Dragon- and Psychic- counters to find the strongest options to take into the fights. That pairing makes the bosses weak to Ice-, Bug-, Dark-, Ghost-, Fairy-, and Dragon-types. That give players a lot to work with as they start getting ready...

Mega Latios Counters

Dialga - Dragon Breath/Draco Meteor

Rayquaza - Dragon Tail/Outrage

Salamence - Dragon Tail/Outrage

Garchomp - Dragon Tail/Outrage

Dragonite - Dragon Tail/Outrage

Zekrom - Dragon Breath/Outrage

Reshiram - Dragon Breath/Draco Meteor

Mega Latias Counters

Dialga - Dragon Breath/Draco Meteor

Palkia - Dragon Tail/Draco Meteor

Rayquaza - Dragon Tail/Outrage

Salamence - Dragon Tail/Outrage

Garchomp - Dragon Tail/Outrage

Dragonite - Dragon Tail/Outrage

Zekrom - Dragon Breath/Outrage

Reshiram - Dragon Breath/Draco Meteor

Obviously not every casual player will have the collection needed to assemble the perfect counter roster, but that's fine. As long as players head into the battle with a decent number of allies and stick to exploiting the weaknesses, victory should be possible. Don't forget to take some time to evaluate resources and decide if spending some Elite TMs, Stardust, and Candy ahead of the battle may be worth it.

Trainers should also keep in mind that rewards for Mega Battle Raid bosses include an encounter with a regular version of the Pokemon and Mega Candy that can be used to temporarily Mega Evolve the Pokemon at a later point. Mega Pokemon are very powerful and having the Mega Candy handy for tough Battle Raids in the future is a great resource to have at the ready.
