The Great League Remix for the GO Battle League has officially begun for players in Pokemon GO. Like the normal Great League, only Pokemon that are 1,500 CP and below are permitted to enter, but certain Pokemon are exclusively banned from competing in the remix. This means that the usual meta teams for the Great League cannot be used.

When making a team for the GO Battle League in Pokemon GO, players need to look for a lead Pokemon, a switch, and a closer. The lead Pokemon is the Pokemon that will be first sent out in battle with the switch being the back-up in case a switch is needed. The closer Pokemon is what will be usually used to end off the battle itself.

Players can participate in both the Great League and the Great League Remix from July 12 to July 16 at 4:00 EDT. After that, the Ultra Leagues will be beginning later in July for players to take on.

Before participating in the Great League Remix, players should be aware of what Pokemon are banned from entry. They are all usual top performers, so their absence can greatly affect players' teams. These banned Pokemon are Alolan Marowak, Alolan Ninetales, Altaria, Azumarill, Bastiodon, Defense Form Deoxys, Galarian Stunfisk, Galvantula, Medicham, Meganium, Pelipper, Politoed, Scrafty, Skarmory, Swampert, Talonflame, Toxicroak, Umbreon, Venusaur, and Vigoroth.

Even with a ban-list as large as this, there are still plenty of Pokemon that are highly recommended and highly regarded for their performance as lead Pokemon for the Great League Remix. These top lead Pokemon are:

  • Abomasnow - Powder Snow and Weather Ball
  • Shadow Beedrill - Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb
  • Snowy Castform - Powder Snow and Weather Ball
  • Diggersby - Quick Attack and Hyper Beam
  • Jellicent - Hex and Shadow Ball
  • Machamp - Counter and Dynamic Punch
  • Shadow Magnezone - Spark and Wild Charge
  • Shadow Nidoqueen - Poison Jab and Earthquake

Moving on to the switch Pokemon, some of the current well performing Pokemon have already been known for their power in the past. While some of them have been power crept overtime, the Great League Remix is giving them the time to shine again. The top recommended switch Pokemon are:

  • Cresselia - Confusion and Future Sight
  • Diggersby - Quick Attack and Hyper Beam
  • Shadow Drapion - Bite and Sludge Bomb
  • Lickitung - Lick and Hyper Beam
  • Shadow Nidoqueen - Poison Jab and Earthquake
  • Regirock - Rock Throw and Stone Edge
  • Sableye - Shadow Claw and Foul Play
  • Zangoose - Shadow Claw and Close Combat

Finally, these closer Pokemon will serve as the best possible anchors when going up against other players in this league. A lot of them can be difficult to obtain, but those who have them can take full advantage of them here. They are:

  • Chansey - Pound and Hyper Beam
  • Shadow Electivire - Thunder Shock and Wild Charge
  • Excadrill - Mud-Slap and Earthquake
  • Hitmontop - Counter and Close Combat
  • Raikou - Volt Switch and Wild Charge
  • Regice - Lock-On and Blizzard
  • Regirock - Rock Throw and Stone Edge
  • Registeel - Metal Claw and Hyper Beam
