Ho-Oh and Lugia are back in raids for Pokemon GO this weekend. Players will be going out to defeat them, but may not know the best Pokemon to use or the best moves for those Pokemon to have.

Pokemon GO raids allow players to challenge Legendary Pokemon like Ho-Oh. These raids are challenging for players with the high Combat Power (CP) of the Pokemon in the raid and the damage that the moves can do. Any Pokemon with a type advantage will be able to be effective in the raid, but for players wanting to maximize their damage output and reduce the amount of revives they will have to use certain Pokemon.

The best typing to use on Ho-Oh is Rock-Type. Any Rock-Type moves will do double the damage to Ho-Oh and beat the raid much quicker. While any Rock-Type is going to be a good choice here there are some Pokemon that will have the best advantage against the Legendary Pokemon.

Pokemon GO Ho-oh catch rate

The best team to put together for the raid should have these three main Pokemon, Tyranitar with Smack Down and Stone Edge, Rhyperior with Smack Down and Stone Edge, and Regirock with Rock Throw and Stone Edge. If players missed out on the Regirock raids during the Regigigas event then they can always supplement with other Pokemon like Rampardos, Terrakion, Aerodactyl, and Golem in either the Alolan form or Kanto form.

Once players have beaten the raid they have the bonus challenge to catch Ho-Oh who has a pretty low catch rate with one in every 50 being caught or around 2%. Some lucky players will manage to get the shiny version of Ho-Oh, which has a 100% catch rate. Once players have caught it they will be able to use it in raids and in battles with friends or against gyms. Legendary and Mythical Pokemon are not allowed to defend gyms though.

Ho-Oh is a beautiful Pokemon with a lot of lore behind it from the games and the anime but in Pokemon GO it is a bit lackluster. It is not a great attacker falling behind other Pokemon like Moltres, Blaziken, and Chandelure. The best moves for Ho-Oh to have are going to be Hidden Power as the fast move and either Fire Blast, Brave Bird, or Solar Beam. The typing for the Hidden Power move will be based on the IVs of Ho-Oh so if the IVs aren't right then players may have to grind to get the best moves.
