Yesterday, developer Niantic announced a large update heading to Pokemon GO that will add fifty generation 3 Pokemon to the game, as well as bring in a new dynamic weather system. Players began picking through the update shortly after it was posted to APK sites, and within it they found that the game's battle UI will also be receiving some changes.

According to their findings, the changes will only affect how players battle in gyms and raids. Specifically, it will change the way the charge move is used. The current method of battling in Pokemon GO has players using both a fast move and a charge move. The fast move can be initiated simply by frantically tapping their screens, while the charge move has players keeping their fingers stationary, holding them in place on the screen.

The update will alter this slightly, by instead adding a new button to the bottom of the screen that will initiate the charge attack. Once a player collects enough energy to use it, the button will light up, indicating a player is ready to use charge. This simplifies the process, making it easier to know when and how to use the move. Some players have speculated that adding buttons could indicate that Pokemon in the future might have multiple charge moves. Lastly, the "charge meter" that tracks how powerful a move is has moved from the top right to below the charge button, which makes a lot more sense.

The changes to battle UI weren't officially part of the major announcement yesterday, but could be disclosed at a later date. What was revealed were plans to add more generation 3 Pokemon into the game. These new Pokemon will begin appearing some time this week, with even more being added over the winter months. While a small number of ghost types were added in during the game's Halloween event, this update will include fifty new Pokemon of many varying types.

One of the more interesting planned changes is the inclusion of a dynamic weather system. The Pokemon GO in-game map will soon reflect the local weather happening around a player. In addition to new weather visuals on the map, the conditions will also affect what Pokemon will appear more commonly. For example, water types might become more abundant in rainy weather, while more fire types might be out soaking up some rays on a sunny day.
