Update: Trainers level 25 and above can now participate in Raid Battles at select Gyms around the world.

Pokemon GO’s latest update has the potential to breath fresh life into the mobile AR game. By reinventing the Gym system and introducing new Battle Raids, there is now an improved multiplayer experience that should help keep the community engaged in the game’s content. Unfortunately, some Pokemon GO players are now worried about whether or not they are high enough level to participate in Battle Raids.

After downloading the Pokemon GO update, players will see a new tab labeled ‘Raids.’ There are currently no Battle Raids available to the public, but the text in the box says, “Raid Battles are not yet available for your level.” The additional ‘for your level’ has a lot of people worried that there is some kind of level requirement. Rest assured that everyone, including max level players, are currently seeing that same message.

None of the official notes from Niantic about Battle Raids have mentioned a level requirement at all, so this seems to just be some poorly worded placeholder text. We do know that there will be multiple levels of Raids that correspond to the battle’s difficulty, but it doesn’t seem like low level player will be locked out of the experience. In the screenshots from the Battle Raid tests, Niantic revealed a level 25 and a level 29 player working together in a battle, so we know at least some of them won’t be locked down for max level players only.

Here’s a look at the current state of the Raid screen…

Players who have been on board since day one are well aware that sometimes it takes Niantic a few tries to arrive at the right language or layout when it comes to new content. We wouldn’t be surprised to see this text change in the coming weeks. It’s also possible that after the Battle Raids officially roll out this language will start to make more sense. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and update when we know more concrete details.
