To the surprise of everyone, Pokemon GO developer Niantic recently released legendary Pokemon into the wild in the form of the Gen 4 Lake Trio: Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit. Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit are the first legendary Pokemon that Pokemon GO players can catch in the wild, but as one may expect, actually finding them isn't going to be an easy task.

Any Pokemon GO players that want to catch Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit in the game will want to be sure that they are properly equipped for such a task. This means stocking up on items like Golden Razz Berries, which will make the Pokemon easier to catch, as well as more powerful Pokeballs, like Great Balls and Ultra Balls. Golden Razz Berries are typically obtained in raid battles, whereas Pokeballs come from PokeStops, gifts, and various other methods in the game.

Once players have prepared themselves, they are ready to start hunting for Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit in Pokemon GO.

Where to Find Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit

The hardest part about catching Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit in Pokemon GO is actually finding the legendary Pokemon in the game. It seems as though they can spawn anywhere at random (with Azelf possibly exclusive to the Americas, Uxie possibly exclusive to Asia, and Mesprit possibly exclusive to the UK), and while exact Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit coordinates are unavailable, a tweet by the German Pokemon GO Twitter account has said that they are more likely to spawn near water, "especially lakes." This makes sense considering the fact that Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit are collectively known as the Lake Guardians or Lake Trio.

Once players manage to find Azelf, Uxie, or Mesprit in Pokemon GO, the next step is to actually catch them. With spawn rates reportedly as low as Unown in the wild, the odds of any given Pokemon GO player actually finding the Lake Trio are pretty slim, but once they do, they should feed them Golden Razz Berries and throw their best Pokeballs at them. It will also help to get Excellent throws to increase the chances of actually catching them.

So while it will still require a ton of luck, any Pokemon GO players who want to catch the Lake Trio will want to focus their Pokemon hunting around lakes.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
