Pokemon GO just wrapped up its Lotad Limited Time Research event yesterday, and it's already announced its Bug Out event for April 2. While Pokemon GO fans wait for the Bug Out event to commence, they won't be completely without something new in the game, as there have been reports of none other than Ash Ketchum photoboming Snapshot pictures as an April Fools' Day prank on the part of Niantic.

Ash Ketchum is the main character of the long-running Pokemon anime series, and continues to be heavily featured in Pokemon merchandise. Since Pokemon GO is tied to the video game series and not so much the anime adaptation, the game and anime haven't had many crossovers. This makes Ash's surprise appearance in Pokemon GO rather special, and may even convince older fans who haven't opened the app in awhile check it out again, if only to see the Ash photobomb.

How to See Ash Ketchum in Pokemon GO

Ash Ketchum won't appear in Pokemon GO until midnight on April 1, local time, when April Fools' Day officially starts. We know about the Ash Ketchum photobomb thanks to Pokemon GO players living in different time zones where it's already April 1, and the rest of the world should expect to see him when it's April 1 for them.

When Ash is added to Pokemon GO, making him appear is just a matter of taking pictures using the Pokemon GO Snapshot feature, and then checking out the photos. It's unclear if Ash will forever be in these photos or if he will continue to appear in the augmented reality game beyond April Fools' Day, but we should know come April 2.

Featuring Ash Ketchum in Pokemon GO is a nice touch, and should play on the nostalgia of older Pokemon fans. It could be a sign that more Pokemon anime crossovers are coming to Pokemon GO in the future, or it could be nothing more than an April Fools' Day prank, but it will be interesting to see how the community reacts.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
