Pokemon GO players have been hunting Legendary creatures for about a month now and the first major Legendary rotation is about to hit. Niantic has been hesitant to say what comes after the first run of Legendary Battle Raids draws to a close, but it seems like a safe bet that Mewtwo is right around the corner...

During the last major announcement from Niantic, the company confirmed that Mewtwo will be introduced to Pokemon GO in the form of Exclusive Raids. The press release gave a high level description of how Exclusive Raids will work, but there are still lots of details that are unclear. One thing that the press release did make clear is that Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres will stop appearing in level five Battle Raids after August 31. For real this time.

Pokemon Go Moveset - Mewtwo

Here is the statement that Niantic released about the limited time Legendary event:

"Over the past three weeks, thousands of Legendary Pokémon have been defeated in Raid Battles around the world. In celebration of this achievement and to give Trainers another chance to catch Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Lugia, all four of these Legendary Pokémon can be battled in Raid Battles from August 14 through August 31. Be on the lookout for these Legendary Pokémon at a raid near you!"

Whether or not new level five Battle Raids will be introduced on September 1 is still a mystery. Some members of the Pokemon GO community are starting to express Legendary fatigue, so a short break might not be a bad idea. Hunting down Legendaries has been a lot of fun, but after chasing birds for five weeks, things are getting a bit repetitive.

We should have more details about how the Mewtwo Exclusive Raids will actually operate as soon as the event begins, so check back for details. Until then, start studying which Pokemon are best against the ultra rare Mewtwo and decide who you will bring into the big battle after you secure an invite.

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
