Pokemon GO's first global event of the summer is officially underway. Now that more details about the event have been revealed, Pokemon GO players have a better idea of what rewards could be in store for the global community, including a very exciting chance to encounter a shiny Articuno.

The global event tasks players in Germany with completing a series of challenges. Each tier that the group at the physical location complete unlocks additional rewards and prized for all players around the world. Perhaps the most exciting tier of prizes includes a special Articuno Day event.

The Articuno Day event is unlocked if all of the challenges have been completed by the end of the event. The special event would take place on July 7 and feature three hours of Articuno Raid Battles. The extra special treat here is that these Raid Battles would give players the chance to catch a shiny version of the Legendary bird.

This is only the first of the major 2018 Global Challenges this summer, so perhaps the future events will include similar reward incentives that highlight the other Legendary birds. It's likely that we won't find out more details about those events until closer to their launch dates.
