After spending the first half of the month battling Genesect once again, it’s now time for Pokemon GO trainers to move on to the next big Legendary Raid Boss. The second half of October is all set to feature the return of Altered Forme Giratina to 5-star Battle Raids and this week’s Raid Hour event.

The upcoming Legendary Pokemon GO Battle Raid rotation will take place on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. and Giratina will stick around until Friday, October 22, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time. During that window, trainers will want to take some time to optimize an ideal battle roster to throw at the boss.

Giratina is a powerful Pokemon, but luckily it has a lot of weaknesses, as well. The Legendary is weak to Dark, Dragon, Fairy, Ghost, and Ice. That means that plenty of popular Battle Raid counters will be relevant for this fight and, hopefully, experienced raiders won't need to spend many resources at all in order to prepare a powerful roster.

One change this time around is access to Mega Evolved Pokemon. Mega Houndoom is a great choice for this Raid and if players have the resources to spare, then burning through some Mega Candy for a few of these Raids would be well worth it. Obviously the Battle Raid is still totally winable without any Mega Evolved Pokemon though, so no worries if that isn't an option. Instead, players will just want to stick with some of the most reliable Dark and Dragon types that they have powered up.

Best Altered Forme Giratina Counters

  • Gengar (Mega) - Lick/Shadow Ball
  • Palkia - Dragon Breath/Draco Meteor
  • Houndoom (Mega) -Snarl/Foul Play
  • Gyarados (Mega) - Bite/Outrage
  • Garchomp - Dragon Tail/Outrage
  • Dialga - Dragon Breath/Draco Meteor
  • Rayquaza - Dragon Tail/Outrage
  • Darkrai - Snarl/Shadow Ball
  • Salamence -Dragon Tail/Draco Meteor
  • Zekrom - Dragon Breath/Outrage
  • Dragonite -Dragon Tail/Draco Meteor
  • Reshiram - Dragon Breath/Draco Meteor

As always, it’s not the end of the world if a trainer can’t assemble the perfect counter roster based on these suggestions. The most important thing is to enter the battle with enough friends (at least three or four mid- to high-level players) and to focus on using Pokemon that take advantage of the boss’ weaknesses. Raiders should have a decent amount of Dragon-type Pokemon powered up, so that’s a good place to start. Don’t hesitate to burn through some Stardust, Rare Candy, and TMs in order to properly prepare for the big fight.

In the coming weeks, we should learn more about what other events will be arriving during the early days of the Season of Mischief. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
