Pokemon GO players have a lot to do this weekend, even if they are not at Go Fest in Chicago. In addition to the reappearance of Lugia, Niantic has also released some new shiny Pokemon and at least two new Alolan variants.

The slow rollout of all of the Alolan Pokemon continues this weekend with the appearance of Geodude and Diglett in the wild. These new Pokemon GO Alolan options each have evolutions, so there are actually more than two new Alolan monsters available today. At this point, we haven't confirmed whether they are also appearing in 7km eggs.

Although they may be a little harder to track down, players can also now encounter shiny versions of Plusle and Minun. The pair seem to be the mascots for Pokemon GO Fest, so it's no surprise that they are getting special treatment this weekend.

Here's a look at the new Alolan and shiny Pokemon...

Pokemon GO is having a pretty fantastic summer with nearly constant events, new features, and new Pokemon releasing throughout the season. The active player count is very healthy and it seems like the mobile AR game is here to stay.

Check for more details on other July events in the coming weeks for additional tips and guides. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
