Now that the Meltan Special Research quest Let's Go, Meltan! is available in Niantic's mobile ARG Pokemon GO, players have been met with a variety of tasks to complete to unlock the new mythical Pokemon. While many of them are straightforward, yet time-consuming, there are a few which players may want to be wary of.

Two of those are the type-specific tasks that occur on Pokemon GO quest step 4 of the special research. For those who reach this step, they will be tasked with catching 5 steel-type and 5 electric-type Pokemon. Of course, while this seems simple, finding these specific types can be trying at times.

Nevertheless, check out the full list of steel Pokemon available in the game below. It must be noted, though, that those marked with an asterisk may not count toward this task. It is currently unconfirmed if evolving Pokemon or hatching eggs will count toward the challenge, but presumably, at least eggs will count:

  • Magnemite - Magneton*
  • Forretress*
  • Steelix*
  • Scizor*
  • Skarmory
  • Beldum - Metang* - Metagross*
  • Mawile
  • Aron - Lairon* - Aggron*
  • Alolan Sandshrew* - Alolan Sandslash*
  • Alolan Diglett* - Alolan Dugtrio*
  • Empoleon*
  • Lucario*

This means there's only about five Pokemon that will count toward the challenge for sure. Luckily, it's worth noting that Aron can obtained from 2 KM eggs, and Alolan Sandshrew and Alolan Diglett can be obtained from 7 KM eggs. Skarmory is also currently serving as a tier 3 raid boss, for those who aren't having any luck with random encounters out in the wild.

Furthermore, it appears that Magnemite is having an increased spawn rate worldwide, as many have also reported catching shiny versions of the electric/steel-type Pokemon. This means that those who quickly get on top of this can perhaps complete this particular task and the electric-type task with ease, since Magnemite would count toward both.
