Meltan's Special Research quest titled Let's Go, Meltan! is available now in Pokemon GO. One thing players may notice is how the early quests are rather mundane, but quickly become more specific. Beyond the returning Ditto task, players will also have to complete tasks with Grimer, Exeggcute, Cubone, Omanyte, Kabuto, Lileep, Anorith, Aerodactyl, and more.

Prior to that incredibly detailed quests, Pokemon GO players will encounter on step 4 some more general, but still frustrating tasks. Those tasks include catching 5 Steel-type Pokemon and catching 5 Electric-type Pokemon. Now, while electric Pokemon are not the rarest type in the game, we've taken the time to compile every Pokemon - and then some - that counts toward the task.

It is currently unknown if evolving Pokemon or hatching eggs count toward the task, so we've included those but marked them with an asterisk. Seemingly, eggs would count at least, but that's just conjecture at the moment. An unmarked Pokemon will definitely count toward the task, so check those out below:

  • Pikachu - Raichu*
  • Magnemite - Magneton*
  • Voltorb - Electrode*
  • Electabuzz
  • Jolteon*
  • Chincou - Lanturn*
  • Pichu*
  • Mareep - Flaaffy* - Ampharos*
  • Elekid* - Electivire*
  • Electrike - Manectric*
  • Plusle
  • Minun
  • Alolan Raichu*
  • Alolan Geodude* - Alolan Graveler* - Alolan Golem*
  • Shinx - Luxio* - Luxray*
  • Pachirisu

There are 11 species of electric Pokemon that will count toward the task. Compared to the Steel-type Pokemon, that's more than double the available species to catch.

Luckily, there is one Pokemon that counts toward both of these tasks, and it is currently experiencing increased spawns worldwide. Magnemite, which is also having shiny versions appear, is an electric/steel-type that will speed up the process of finishing these tasks and catching Meltan.

As more develops concerning the Meltan Special Research, be sure to check back here. Until then, good luck out there, Trainers!
