Catching Pokemon is at the center of Pokemon GO, and veteran players should be quite familiar with the various techniques that they can use to nab the pocket monsters that they encounter. That said, these established techniques are no match for some Aerodactyls, as fans will occasionally find that these Rock/Flying-type Pokemon are simply too far away to hit with a Pokeball. For those players that are currently encountering this issue with Aerodactyls in Pokemon GO, this guide has details on a potential fix.

Pokemon GO: Aerodactyl Out of Range Fix

If a player is unable to hit an Aerodactyl with their Pokeballs, it is recommended that they activate AR mode. This is done simply by flipping the AR switch that appears at the top-right corner of the screen when trying to catch a Pokemon in Pokemon GO, and this action will cause the player’s realworld surroundings to become the backdrop for their engagements. Turnining on AR mode will also reposition out-of-range Aerodactyls, allowing fans to catch them much more easily.

To note, players have been reporting this bug with Aerodactyls since September 2021, and Niantic has indicated that it is aware of the problem. The Pokemon GO developer has also stated that more information on the situation will come through its “official channels,” but there have been no further updates at the time of writing. The fix detailed above should work for most players, though, even it does not help them regain any Pokeballs that they lost while trying to catch an Aerodactyl that was too far away.

Fortunately, there are many different ways to get more Pokeballs in PoGO, with PokeStops and Gyms providing the easiest opportunities for restocking. Indeed, Pokeballs are very common rewards for spinning these special locations, and players that wasted a lot of Pokeballs trying to catch a distant Aerodactyl may want to consider visiting some of them. Alternatively, fans that are in need of Pokeballs can focus their efforts on Research tasks, which award them frequently.

In fact, there is currently a 15-step Timed Research that grants an assortment of Pokeballs, Great Balls, and Ultra Balls. This particular Timed Research is Pokemon GO’s Stardust Challenge, and, as its name suggests, it is all about earning Stardust. There will also be new sets of Timed Research in January and February 2022, giving players even more opportunities to complete tasks and refill their inventories with Pokeballs of different types.

Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
