Christmas is just a few days away, and the new year is fast approaching. As the festive season is starting to hit its climax, gamers are continuously bombarded with an incredible amount of Steam winter sales and Christmas events. Not one to be left behind, Niantic's mobile game Pokemon GO already has a full line up of player events to kick off the start of 2021.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and with many areas under quarantine, game developers and publishers have taken a massive hit in productivity levels. As a game that requires players to step outside, Pokemon GO has worked hard to keep its Trainers active without them having to leave their quarantine spaces. Continuing with its monthly Community Days and creating more special events throughout the year, Pokemon GO has even reported the highest earnings ever for 2020.

To usher in the start of 2021, Pokemon GO is adding a new costumed Pokemon to its current roster, the Slowpoke wearing 2020 glasses. According to the event post, Trainers will be able to spot this special Slowpoke in the wild, after completing Field Research tasks, when participating in raids, or hatching from 2 km eggs. Evolving a costumed Slowpoke will transform it into a Slowbro wearing 2021 glasses.

Familiar Pokemon wearing New Year's and party hats will also be making a comeback during the New Year's event. These include Pichu hatching from 2 km eggs, and Pikachu appearing in the wild and after players complete Field Research tasks. Players can get both Pikachu and Raichu with New Year's hats by evolving them from their previous hat-wearing forms. Other Pokemon wearing party hats such as Raticate, Wobbuffet, Wurmple, Klink, and Espurr will appear in limited time Gym raids. And for Eevee fans, the party hat version will be available as a reward from Field Research.

The celebration starts from December 31, 2020, 10:00 p.m. to January 4, 2021, 10:00 p.m, during each Trainer's local time and will extend a few days after the New Year. This allows players ample time to complete tasks & capture the event's unique costumed Pokemon. Typical Pokemon GO holiday event bonuses such as twice the amount of Hatch Candy and Hatch Stardust, plus half Hatch distance for eggs placed in incubators, will also be active during the event.

The 2021 Glasses and New Year's Party Hat avatar accessories will also be available as in-app purchases from December 30, 2020, 1:00 p.m. PST (GMT -8). This is a festive way for players who love to dress their Trainers up to enjoy the New Year event with their favorite Pokemon GO companion by their side.

Pokemon GO is currently available for mobile devices.
