One game that Pokemon fans have been keeping a trained eye on is the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Arceus. This game is looking to be one of the most ambitious ones in the series, with the introduction of its open-world gameplay set in the distant past of the Sinnoh Region. With the roster of Pokemon looking to be expanded further with this exploration of the past, it leads to some creative fan creations. One of these include combining Gyarados, a classic fan favorite from the first Generation with one of the Pokemon recently unveiled in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Basculegion.

For many fans of the original Pokemon games, Gyarados is a staple of the Kanto Region, being a fearsome and powerful Pokemon that originally started life as the unassuming Magikarp. Fans have loved the Pokemon so much that it still makes frequent appearances, especially Gyarados' iconic red shiny variant. Basculegion will make its debut appearance in the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Arceus as the evolved form of a similarly unassuming fish Pokemon, Basculin. Considering the two having similar appearances and evolution line setups, this made it the perfect catalyst for this fan art's fusion concept.

Posted to Reddit by Pokemon subreddit user WowPokefusions, the art showcases this fusion dubbed "Gyaralegion." This design combines Gyarados' fearsome serpentine dragon design with Basulegion's pink and black accents from its body. This fearsome aspect is emphasized with the fusion's jagged jawline, sharp fins, and patterned tail. This design brings to mind Gyarados' Mega Evolution, which fellow users commented on.

WowPokefusions commented that the fusion was made relatively quickly, which they drew up this design concept as soon as Basculegion and the other new Pokemon in Legends: Arceus were revealed. Fans who saw the design complimented this fusion's look, where they noted that it takes the best features of both Pokemon, and combining their elements into a proper and coherent design. Others were impressed with it as well, saying that the original Gyarados' fear factor has been amped up.

Pokemon fusions are some of the most interesting things that fan artists can create since they take the best parts of each creature's design and turn them into something completely brand-new and interesting. With Pokemon Legends: Arceus introducing even more Pokemon, regional variants, and evolutions to older ones, there's bound to be more creative designs to come when the game is released.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus will launch for Nintendo Switch on January 28th, 2022.
