The Pokemon franchise has taken a lot of inspiration from reality over the years, and recently various aspects of real life have also taken inspiration from Pokemon. However, some similarities between the game franchise and reality appear to be hilarious coincidences. One Pokemon fan recently spotted a resemblance between the head of the Pokemon Suicune and a Canadian province.

Suicune, known as the Aurora Pokemon, is a Legendary Pokemon introduced in the Gen 2 Pokemon games. It resembles a large canine with blur fur, a long mane, a ribbon-like tail, and a distinctive bony crest on its head. Suicune's iconic silhouette was featured prominently in Pokemon Crystal, the game that Suicune was the mascot of.

Redditor 1mpish420 shared an image that combines a screenshot taken from a map of Canada and part of Suicune's official character art. The map shows a zoomed-in image of the isle of Newfoundland, which provides 29% of the land coverage to the Canadian province Newfoundland and Labrador. Looking at the two images side by side, it's easy to see the resemblance between them--the island even appears to feature Suicune's enormous crest and part of the creature's flowing mane.

Although the comparison is striking, it should be noted that this only applies to the island itself – the rest of the province does not bear any particular resemblance to Suicune. Despite this, it's an interesting coincidence that an island looks like the head of Suicune, a water-type Pokemon that is often shown walking on land. Suicune appears to be designed for traveling on land rather than swimming, and an iconic image of Suicune from the Pokemon anime is that of the creature running delicately over top of large bodies of water.

It appears that other fans agree that the island of Newfoundland bears an uncanny resemblance to Suicune. One user pointed out that the two main ways off the island, aside from flying, are located at points that resemble the Pokemon's crystal and mouth on the map. A second user noted that while the inland territory Labrador may not look much like Suicune, its name certainly evokes dog-like imagery. Several users questioned whether or not the image or Canada itself was real, all while other users claiming to be from Newfoundland shared other funny facts about their home province. Newfoundland and Labrador form the youngest and most easterly province in Canada, although Nunavut is the youngest territory.
