There are currently around 900 Pokemon available for players to catch and collect. With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet on the way, the number of available Pokemon will likely hit 1000. Even among those hundreds of Pokemon, there are few as unique as Rotom, a Ghost/Electric-type introduced in the 4th Generation of Pokemon games. Rotom may not stand out immediately, though over the years it has been given an interesting amount of form updates that change Rotom's type, design, and more.

Most of Rotom's forms come from its ability to possess electrical appliances. There's the Fan Rotom, which takes on the form of a fan and gains the Flying-type, the Mow Rotom, which looks like a lawnmower and gains the Grass-type, and a few more for players to find. Fans have found this aspect of Rotom unique within the franchise, with some Pokemon players even making their own Rotom forms based on other appliances such as a lava lamp and an alarm clock.

One Pokemon fan has decided to give Rotom a new form based on the Nintendo Switch console. Specifically, user SelenoFil on Reddit has created a custom Joy-Con Rotom, that has the Pokemon take control of the controllers. SelenoFil describes how the Joy-Con is enhanced by Rotom's possession in their post, stating that the range and battery life of the Joy-Con are extended. There's also an interesting piece about Rotom being able to press the buttons on its own, manifesting "plasma hands."

This note about Rotom being able to play the Nintendo Switch on its own inspired fans to make a few jokes about the Joy-Con drifting problem, with some saying that they must have a Rotom in their Joy-Con due to the control stick moving in random directions. Joy-Con drift is an issue many Switch owners have come across in their time owning the console. A problem with the Switch's hardware causes it to register controller movement without player input, and Nintendo still working on a fix for this issue.

Whether the new Rotom form is causing Joy-Con drift or not, fans were also appreciative of SelenoFil's art. It's clear that the fan-made Pokemon has a lot of detail put into it, although other fans were quick to add some extra points about the new Rotom. One commenter even gave the Joy-Con form a full list of stats and its type. For the Joy-Con Rotom, a few fans believe it should be a regular Electric-type Pokemon, losing its dual-typing with this form alone.
