Released in the United States in 1998, Pokemon Red and Blue had a first Gym battle that one might describe as gray. Pewter City was the home of Brock who specialized in Rock-type Pokemon. While Brock's animated counterpart had a much larger role in the animated series, he was a fierce foe that players had to overcome in the original games.

In the original Pokemon games, Brock only had two Pokemon for the player to battle. They were Geodude and Onyx which made the battle difficult for anyone who chose Charmander as their starter or played Pokemon Yellow. Wild Pokemon with counters to Brock's Rock-types were hard to come by at that point in the game. In the animated series, Brock would ultimately leave Pewter City and join Ash on his journey, though the character did leave and return to Ash's side several times in the Pokemon series.

In the years since the games' original release, fan's have made their own tributes to Brock's home city. As part of a larger project to recreate the Kanto region in Pokemon using only LEGOs, Reddit user Buscags1 has added a new update to their map. Specifically, the LEGO recreation has now added Pewter City.

This post is just the latest in a series of posts that documents the progress of the Kanto LEGO recreation. The most recent post prior to this showed off their recreation of Route 2 from the Pokemon games which connected Viridian City to Pewter City. The map still has a long way to go, and the next logical step will be recreating Route 3. How long the map will take to be completed remains to be seen.

LEGO tributes like this are very common throughout the Pokemon fandom. The sprite technology that was available to the developers at the time of the games' release is very conducive to LEGO recreations. One fan, for example, created an animation of the Pokemon Gold and Silver protagonist using only LEGOs, and it's likely that fans will create more tributes like these in the future.

Pewter City was ultimately just a stepping stone for the player character in Pokemon Red and Blue, but it was a stone that was never forgotten. One artist, for example, redrew the entirety of the town while hiding over 100 Pokemon in the drawing. In Pokemon Gold and Silver the player character eventually crossed over into the Kanto region and battled Brock in the city's Gym. While the city might not be the biggest, nor the battle with Brock the hardest, it's one that remains in gamers' memories.
