With over 800 Pokemon since its beginnings in 1996, the Pokemon franchise has covered many different characteristics for new Pokemon across the series. While some fans may consider that the series has taken a turn for more "humanoid" Pokemon designs, there have been unique creations in the past, including mythical creatures such as dragons, household appliances, and even a set of keys.

One of the most striking designs in Pokemon, Skarmory, debuted in 1999's Pokemon Gold and Silver as one of the signature Pokemon to bear the, at the time, new typing, Steel. In total, there were six Steel-type Pokemon and of the six, Skarmory stood out as the only Pokemon without an evolution line, something that persists to this day. Realizing this, a fan decided to make a baby evolution "Fakemon" for Skarmory, offering several insightful ideas for the silver bird.

Fan Pokemon artist, Homeless, unveiled the baby Skarmory, Arbird, on Reddit, showing off its likeliness to its older avian form including its general color scheme and theme. What's most impressive about the design is the commitment to making Arbird as close to an official Pokemon as possible, including its stats, egg group, move list, and even its shiny form.

The artist's attention to detail shines through when compared to Skarmory as, compared to its older form, Arbird is a fledgling who doesn't quite have the ability to use its wings to its advantage yet. Therefore, moves such as Steel Wing, Wing Attack, and Brave Bird are absent from its move pool. Its gutsy demeanor is referenced in its Pokedex entry, "Arbird are sent off on their own mere hours after hatching," citing that it uses its "extremely dense armor" to withstand attacks and strike back with its talons.

Arbird isn't the first pocket monster that the artist has created as several Pokemon were also created based on existing ones without an evolution line. One particular Pokemon, Calfpint, takes note of its potential evolution based on gender, evolving into either a Tauros or a Miltank depending on whether it's male or female.

Recently, several artists had taken a unique spin on existing Pokemon, with some, like Bulbasaur, repurposed as a "boba milk tea" design, using the bulb on its back and its name as a play on the word, "Bobasaur." With the amount of thought and care provided to unique Pokemon in a series that is expected to reach past 1000 in its newest entry, whenever that may be, Pokemon continues to be the source of some of the most creative fans a series has to offer.
