Everyone who is familiar with Pokemon is likely familiar with Charizard. Second only to Pikachu in terms of identifiability, the famous Fire-type flying creature has long been a staple of the franchise, with even the most casual of fans able to recall his basic attributes. One fan recently decided to throw some of those attributes out the window and has drawn fanart of what Charizard would look like were it a Fairy-type.

Fairy-type Pokemon, at least in terms of the trading card game, no longer exist. Early in 2020, The Pokemon Company announced a list of rule changes coming along with the release of the Pokemon TCG: Sword and Shield Series. The list of rules outlined changes to the longstanding game, the most significant of which was the removal of standalone Fairy-types going forward.

Despite the rule adjustment for the Pokemon TCG, that hasn't stopped one particular Pokemon fan and artist from imagining some new Fairy-type of their own. Located in the subreddit r/pokemon, a user by the name of Abz-art posts two images of a striking Fairy-type Charizard design. The Pokemon's usual orange skin is swapped for shades of pink and purple, with its horns sharper and curling inward. Charizard's angular wing flaps have been softened and rounded, while a dark purple mane travels along his spine and tail. The artist also thought to include a Shiny variant, which features a pale blue, purple, and white color scheme.

Fans have lauded the artist's work for its spot-on art style, with things like "followed" and "Love This" populating the comments. While the art in and of itself is certainly unique, this is a bit of an ongoing project for Abz-art. A few months ago, the same artist made headlines for drawing what Pikachu would look like as a Fighting-Type, which was one of a series of drawings imagining the Pokemon mascot as every type that exists. It would seem Abz-art is giving the same treatment to Charizard, with one of his comments declaring a Dragon-type version is coming up next.

Charizard seems to be the muse of many artistic Pokemon fans, with unofficial art of the character regularly making rounds on the internet. One artist even painted a MacBook like a Charizard Pokemon card. Popular TikTok artist Leo Mahalo garnered millions of views and likes by spending over 100 hours to near-perfectly recreate the first edition holographic version of the card on the laptop. Artistic endeavors such as the laptop and the Fairy-type rendition go to show just how huge an impact Charizard has made in not just the Pokemon fandom, but in pop culture as a whole.

The Fairy-type Pokemon rendition of Charizard is a visually pleasing one, and is sure to gain further attention from fans. While Charizard's popularity continues, in a somewhat ironic twist pertaining to this story, the most recent Pokemon Unite update adds Fairy-type Gardevoir, and nerfs Charizard.
