Ash Ketchum began his journey in Pallet Town with a few goals in mind. Pallet Town is the first Kanto town we encountered in the Pokémon games and anime. The regions change throughout the series, but constants such as Pokémon Centers, Gyms, and residents willing to help the protagonist remain.

Creatures called Pokémon inhabit the Kanto region. Although Pokémon make Kanto mystifying, there are more points of interest than Pokémon. By the end of this list, you may look at the Kanto region differently. Including an abandoned power plant and a creepy old guy who gawks at a building full of women, there are at least 10 facts you didn't know about Kanto.

For newcomers to the Pokémon series, this might sound impressive. If you didn't already know, Kanto was the first region to be featured in the main series of Pokémon games. Appearing in Pokémon Red and Blue, Kanto is a microcosm that we've grown to love for its niche stores, friendly characters, and unique Pokémon. The Pokémon series would not be where it is today if it weren't for the flawless design of the Kanto region. Hopefully, Kanto returns in an upcoming Pokémon main series game.

9 Kanto Is Based On The Real-Life Kanto Region

The fictional town of Kanto from Pokémon is not so fictional after all. Sure, there isn't a place in the world where Pokémon run rampant and obey the orders of their trainer (unless you play Pokémon GO). There is, however, a region in Japan called Kanto and it is found on the largest island of Japan. There are an estimated 43 million people located in Kanto, who are called Kantolians. This Pokémon fact might be surprising to some people, but it's not so Farfetch'd. Sorry if this factoid made you Drowzee.

8 It Contains Ten Towns And Cities

The Kanto region is considerably vast given that it contains ten towns and ten cities. Sure, developer Game Freak had to make the maps to scale so that we could traverse each town and city without issue.

The way the map of Kanto is put together provides enjoyable gameplay. In reality, these towns and cities are large, which means the adventure would be extended quite a bit if they were full-sized. Perhaps the size of towns and cities will expand in future Pokémon games.

7 It Has A Secret Power Plant

The people of Kanto may be aware that there is a power plant somewhere near Cerulean City, but it's highly unlikely many people have been there. To reach the power plant of the Kanto region, players must have a Pokémon with the technique Surf. Because reaching the power plant is not part of the main story in Generation I and is only a side quest, many players might gloss over the existence of a power plant. It's an abandoned power plant, which contains the powerful Pokémon Zapdos.

6 Trainer Ash Ketchum Is From The Kanto Region

The protagonist of the Pokémon anime, who we've grown to admire for his talents as a Pokémon trainer is named Ash Ketchum. The young lad began his journey from Pallet Town, Kanto. He set out to defeat all the gym leaders, the elite four, and catch every Pokémon in the world. Bold and adventurous, he accomplished some of these goals in the Kanto region. With friends, including the Pokémon Pikachu by his side, Ash Ketchum did most of his development as a trainer in the Kanto region.

5 There's A Creepy Old Guy In Celadon City

An uncanny old guy stands outside Celadon gym, peering in the windows to get a glimpse of the women inside. This creepy old man shouldn't linger; he needs to go home and rethink his life.

Creepiness is common in the Pokémon world. Gym Leader Brock is another person who gets googly-eyed when he sees a pretty woman. "Heheh! This GYM is great! It's full of women!" He has no problem saying that to a female and just because it's a women's gym, he is completely flabbergasted.

4 Kanto Is Inhabited By Ghosts

Kanto is inhabited by ghosts such as Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, and Marrowak. Lavender Town is a town of horrors due to containing a plethora of spirits. The haunted Pokémon Tower is seven-stories of nightmares. Furthermore, an eery Marowak (the mother of Cubone) guards the top floor and attacks anyone who enters. Supernatural phenomena are not unheard of in the Pokémon world. Kanto might be the most haunted region in Pokémon because of Lavendar Town's spooky Pokémon tower.

3 Adults Try To Steal From Kids

The Pokémon universe is far from being normal. Bizarrely, adults in the Pokémon world try to steal Pokémon from kids. It's about as twisted as taking candy from a baby. Jesse and James are two adults who follow Ash Ketchum and his friends around, trying to steal his Pikachu and other Pokémon.

Their elaborate schemes could indicate some type of mental illness. How Officer Jenny allows this trio to walk freely is stranger than fiction. If there were any sense in the Pokémon world, Jesse and James would have a restraining order or be put in jail.

2 It's Where A Horrible Experiment Went Wrong

The citizens of the Kanto region are in horrific danger! A malevolent, powerful Pokémon dwells in the Cerurulean Cave waiting... for something. Found throughout the Pokémon Mansion on Cinnabar Island are journal entries depicting this entity's atrocities. The Pokémon is known as Mewtwo, and scientists on Cinnabar Island created it.

As the most powerful Pokémon in the game, it has the potential to leave the region of Kanto in ruins. The people of Kanto must not venture out to Cinnabar Island that often because the writing is in plain sight.

1 It Contains An Active Volcano!

When you reach Cinnabar Island in Generation II of the Pokémon games, you find that it is not quite the same as last time you ventured there. An active volcano erupted (not surprising), destroying all buildings on the island. It's uncertain which is more upsetting; the fact that the volcano erupted or that people decided to build a city around a volcano. Cinnabar Island is not a place for a gym, which is why they moved the gym to the Seafoam Islands.
