Because of its Psychic-type powers and desireable techniques, Mewtwo is a Pokémon fit for any trainer. For the longest time, Mewtwo was considered the most powerful Pokémon in the game. Even today, Mewtwo remains relevant despite there being a plethora of Pokémon in existence. We learned about Mewtwo from reading the texts in the Pokémon Mansion. Mewtwo had so much power that Dr. Fuji "failed to curb its vicious tendencies…"

By the end of this listicle, you'll learn why Mewtwo is one of Pokémon's most influential creatures and why the movies may not accurately represent him. This is Pokémon: 10 facts you didn't know about Mewtwo.

10 10. Mewtwo Is The First Pokémon To Appear In The Animated Series

It all started one day when Ash Ketchup...err Ketchum turned ten years old. It's the same age that most trainers start their journey to become a Pokémon master. Not all trainers become a Pokémon Master, but the glory of holding a Poké Ball and having Pokémon companions is reason enough to become one.

Notably, the first Pokémon to appear in the entire series was Mewtwo. It flies across the screen during the intro followed by a Mew. We can't forget Mewtwo for being the first Pokémon to grace the screen.

9 9. Team Rocket Created Mewtwo In A Top Secret Laboratory

If you haven't got a chance to watch the Pokémon movies, you really should as you won't be disappointed. The Pokémon movies, including Pokémon: The First Movie and Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution contains vital plot points about Mewtwo and the series as a whole. Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution is the latest 2019 film about Mewtwo.

In the first movie, we learn that Mewtwo was created in a laboratory using cloning technology. They grew Mewtwo in a tank containing orange fluid, which is eerie, to say the least. The tank could not contain Mewtwo's wicked power, leading to the demise of several scientists who created Mewtwo.

8 8. Mewtwo Was Wholehearted Until They Made Him A Villain In The Movie

The original concept of Mewtwo characterized him as a pure-hearted Pokémon like many others. Perhaps it was the circumstances Team Rocket placed Mewtwo in that drove him to become evil.

The last thing Mewtwo wanted was to become a lab experiment to be tested on for the rest of his life. His violent outbursts are almost justified seeing as how he was born into a world of greed and betrayal. We may have had a different view of Mewtwo if Pokémon: The First Movie didn't depict him as a monster.

7 7. Mewtwo Is One Of The Few Pokémon Who Can Talk Like A Human

Using the power of telepathy, Mewtwo is capable of interacting with human beings in the English language (depending on your region). Strangely, people aren't surprised to hear Mewtwo speak, but the show must go on.

Only a handful of Pokémon, including Meowth, Pikachu, Gastly, Lugia, Entei, Lucario, Larvitar, and more can speak to humans through telepathy, mind control, or human speech. Mewtwo is one of the few Pokémon who can talk like a human.

6 6. Mewtwo Battled Against Gary's Pokémon

The screen only flashed for a second, so many people don't know that Gary combatted Mewtwo with his Pokémon in Pokémon: The First Movie. Near the beginning of the movie, Giovanni met with Mewtwo and planned to train Mewtwo to be his Pokémon.

Mewtwo fought various Pokémon including Onyx, and evidently, he fought Gary as well. As expected, Mewtwo had a considerable advantage over Arcanine and Nidoking, winning the battle with its Psychic powers.

5 5. Armored Mewtwo Can Be Found In Pokémon GO

For a limited time, Armored Mewtwo will appear in Pokémon GO as a raid boss. As expected, Armored Mewtwo will be more difficult to beat than a regular Mewtwo. Armored Mewtwo has lower Combat Power but has higher Defence as it does in Pokémon: The First Movie.

In addition, it will have different techniques than regular Mewtwo. It's only going to appear for a short while, so you may as well try to catch one before it's too late.

4 4. Mewtwo Has Mega Evolutions

Mewtwo does not have evolutionary forms as part of normal evolution. It does, however, have two different mega evolutions. Using the Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y items, Mewtwo has the power to turn into Mewtwo X and Mewtwo Y.

So you thought that Mewtwo's base power was unbelievably terrifying? Both of Mewtwo's mega evolutions have base stats that are over 100 with Special Attack being 154. With the potential to have Special Attack rise to over 400 by the time it's level 100, these are two forms you don't want to mess with.

3 3. He Is A Playable Character In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

For those who are fortunate enough to have purchased a Nintendo Switch, Mewtwo is a playable character in the highly acclaimed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In theory, Mewtwo should be one of the most powerful figures in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but Nintendo has done a heck of a job balancing each character to make the game fair.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mewtwo knows moves like Shadow Ball, Confusion, Teleport, Disable, and Psystrike. All of which are moves contained in the Pokémon main series games.

2 2. Mewtwo Is A Genius

Aside from being one of the most powerful Pokémon, Mewtwo possesses intelligence that is far beyond most other Pokémon and humans. In the short span we saw Mewtwo in Pokémon: The First Movie he built a laboratory for cloning Pokémon, finishing the work that the scientists had already started.

He also assembled an army of clones to try and wipe out humanity. Okay, so maybe it's like he reinvented the wheel. It's still a mighty impressive accomplishment—Pokémon or not.

1 1. Mewtwo Is A Clone Of Mew

If you haven't already guessed, Mewtwo is a clone of Mew, hence the name "Mewtwo." As a clone, Mewtwo has even more power than Mew, but less of the innocence. Regardless, Mew can beat Mewtwo in a battle as their Combat Power is not that different. Mew is even rarer than Mewtwo if that was even possible.

Under normal circumstances, Mew can't be caught in any of the main series Pokémon games. Credit goes to YouTube creator BIRDY C for this breathtaking illustration.
