There are plenty of Pokemon throughout the Pokemon series that stand out among fans for various reasons. One of the most popular Pokemon of the first generation is the pink, shape-shifting Pokemon Ditto, thanks to its interesting ability, cute design, and simplistic face.
Over the course of the Pokemon series’ evolution, Ditto has become a mainstay in each and every one of Pokemon’s eight generations. Ditto is found in every Pokemon game at some point, from the original Pokemon Red and Blue all the way up the latest entries, Pokemon Sword and Shield. As a result, Ditto has become iconic to many fans of the Pokemon series, both hardcore and not.
Now, the Pokemon Company has announced a surprising piece of merchandise centering around Ditto. Available only in Japan, The Pokemon Company has revealed a giant, pink sofa complete with Ditto’s iconic smile and beady eyes.
The Ditto sofa is exactly what one would think of when picturing Ditto turning into a piece of furniture. Much like the recent human-sized Metapod cocoon sleeping bag that was recently revealed, the Ditto sofa is a massive furniture item that consumers can incorporate into their own rooms. The sofa is priced at 25,990 yen, meaning it would cost about $249.88 over here in the US. Unfortunately, western Pokemon fans won’t be able to purchase this Ditto sofa for themselves, as it is currently only available for purchase in Japan.
Though, that might be a good thing for some Pokemon fans, considering there is definitely a camp out there that think Ditto itself is a fairly creepy Pokemon. It’s very likely that some fans wouldn’t want to own a sofa that literally stares back at them from across the room. Still, it’s hard not to look at the Ditto sofa and think that’s it’s an incredibly funny concept and design. Especially considering Ditto can change its shape to match anything.
Whether players think Ditto is creepy or not, it’s hard to understate the Pokemon’s usefulness in nearly every Pokemon title. Ditto’s are used for Pokemon breeding in every mainline entry, which helps players get Pokemon with the best stats for competitive play. Additionally, Ditto is instrumental in shiny Pokemon hunting, giving players better odds of hatching eggs that contain shiny Pokemon. Love it or hate it, the Ditto sofa is an awesome and hilarious way to celebrate one of the Pokemon series’ most unique creatures.
