A Pokemon fan has come up with an interesting concept for a Ghost/Ground-type Diglett parallel that is rather morbid. The upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games are introducing a kind of Pokemon that leakers have referred to as "regional fakes." Essentially, these are new Pokemon that are very similar to a pre-existing Pokemon, but just different enough so they're not labeled as regional variants.

So far, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have revealed one regional fake in the form of Wiglett. Wiglett pops its head out of the ground in a manner not unlike Diglett, but whereas Diglett is short and brown, Wiglett is long and white. Notably, Wiglett is also a Water-type Pokemon, whereas Diglett is usually a Ground-type Pokemon.

Reddit user McClaneMacleod has created their own Diglett parallel ala Wiglett, with their design perfect for the Halloween season. The Diglett form of this new Pokemon concept looks like a tombstone with a face on it, which McClaneMacleod has labeled Cryptlett. The Dugtrio equivalent is three headstones of varying sizes, named Riptrio. These headstone Diglett and Dugtrio equivalents are Ghost/Ground-type Pokemon. As previously mentioned, Diglett and Dugtrio are usually Ground-type Pokemon, though their Alolan forms are Ground/Steel-type.

Pokemon fans have reacted positively to this morbid Diglett concept, with the post gaining over 22,000 upvotes at the time of this writing. The top comment, from user Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo, called the concept an "S tier idea" because it continues the trend of Ghost/Ground-type Pokemon that look like they should have Ghost and Rock-typing instead. Examples of this include Pokemon like Galarian Yamask, Runerigus, and Golurk.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to see what other older Pokemon are recreated in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet as regional fakes in the way Diglett was warped into Wiglett. Reputable leakers who have accurately leaked a lot of information about the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games have indicated that more have yet to be revealed, but with the games set to launch in just over a month's time, it's unclear if fans will get to see them ahead of time.

The latest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer was surprisingly short on new Pokemon reveals. In fact, the only new Pokemon that received a proper introduction was the new Girafarig evolution Farigiraf, though some other new Pokemon were hidden in the trailer. It's possible that there will be more new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailers and reveals in the weeks head, but it's just as likely that Game Freak and Nintendo will decide to keep the games under wraps until the release date rolls around.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launch on November 18, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
