One Pokemon fan shared images of a recreated Twinleaf Town and Route 201 from Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl made in the Unreal Engine, but fans are skeptical that a main series Pokemon game would have those graphics.

Last year, rumors began circulating that Switch remakes of the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl games were in development. This isn't outlandish; The Pokemon Company remakes each main series game, with the most recent being Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby for the 3DS. It looks like the fourth generation is due for a remake on the Switch and a recent shot of Dialga from Diamond on Twitter sent fans into the hopes that 2021 will finally be the year for Diamond and Pearl.

A couple of days ago, Redditor u/papabeard88 posted a handful of images to r/pokemon of what the Diamond and Pearl remakes could look like in the future, recreated with the Unreal Engine. The images show off Route 201 and Twinleaf Town, the hometown of the player character in the Sinnoh region. While in the original games with 2D graphics, the town looks flat with a basic four-house layout, papabeard88's recreation of Twinleaf Town features dynamic levels, changing up the layout between the cabin-style houses.

Some other Redditors are impressed, commenting on how realistic the plant life and trees look, while others are imagining what this version of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl would look like in VR.

Papabeard88 breaks down how they were able to create this HD version of Diamond and Pearl because they taught themself Unreal Engine many years ago and recreated an HD version of Pallet Town, the protagonist's hometown from the Pokemon Red and Blue games. They explain that their goal was to create something that resembles the quality of Sword and Shield's art style after so much critique from gamers.

Graphics in the Pokemon franchise, especially in Sword and Shield, have been under heavy scrutiny in the gaming community. Pokemon has always been known to boast simple graphics, but with the most recent main-series installment duo, fans were hoping to see improvement and much more dedication to graphical advancements. After such disappointment with Sword and Shield's overall art direction, Redditors are skeptical that a Pokemon game would ever look as impressive as papabeard88's depiction of Diamond and Pearl.

Even the OP themself is doubtful that Diamond and Pearl would see this level of graphics: "This version of Twinleaf Town would definitely NOT run on a Switch," they said in a comment to their own post.

Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl remakes are rumored to be in development for the Nintendo Switch.
