Every five years or so, Game Freak releases remakes of its classic main series Pokemon games, starting with Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen in 2004, HeartGold and SoulSilver in 2009, and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in 2014. Going by this pattern, the Pokemon franchise is actually overdo for remakes, but some fans think that Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes are right around the corner.

Nintendo recently confirmed that a Pokemon-themed Nintendo Direct will take place on Thursday, January 9 at 6:30am PT/9:30am ET. No details about what this Pokemon Direct will entail have been revealed, though it will supposedly include about 20 minutes of new Pokemon information. Right now, Sinnoh, Gen 4, and Diamond and Pearl are all trending on Twitter, and it's because some fans are convinced that Diamond and Pearl remakes are about to be announced.

It may seem odd that Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes would be announced so soon after the release of Sword and Shield, but there are new main series Pokemon games released nearly every year. Considering this, it wouldn't be all that surprising to see Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes launch this coming holiday season, as 2019 had Sword and Shield and 2018 had Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee.

Pokemon Diamond Pearl

If Nintendo does announce Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes, one would hope that they would address some of the criticisms aimed at the original games. The original Pokemon Diamond and Pearl games earned some criticism for their slow pace and lackluster graphics (for the time), so hopefully those issues are addressed in the supposed remakes.

While Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes may be the most exciting new Pokemon games that Nintendo could announce during the upcoming Pokemon Direct presentation, there are many other possibilities as well. For example, Nintendo may use the Pokemon Direct to reveal more information about the Pokemon Home service, or maybe it will offer some more details about Pokemon Sleep. Alternatively, a brand new Pokemon game may be announced that's completely different than anything fans have seen before.

Really the Pokemon Direct could announce just about anything, so fans of the franchise should be sure to tune in on January 9 at 6:30am PT/9:30am ET.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are available now for the Nintendo DS.
