Today marks the start of the first Legendary Pokemon distribution event of 2018, the first of what Game Freak is describing as a "yearlong parade" of Legendary Pokemon. Owners of Pokemon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, or Ultra Moon can now visit a local GameStop to receive either Palkia or Dialga.

Note the "or" in "Palkia or Dialga." Pokemon players will receive one or the other depending on the version of Pokemon Sun or Moon that they own. So in order to get both Legendaries, it seems that players are required to own both Sun and Moon. And probably two trips to GameStop, too.

In order to receive a Legendary Pokemon, players will have to go to GameStop and ask for it at the counter. The GameStop employee should then provide a special card with a keycode on it, which can then be redeemed for the Legendary Pokemon associated with the version of the game. Owners of Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon will also get an extra surprise.

The special Legendary Pokemon event is tied to the release of the latest series of the Pokemon TCGPokemon TCG: Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism is also available now, adding more than 150 cards to the game, as well as the clever new Prism mechanic. Both Palkia and Dialga are featured in the new TCG series, a perfect tie-in for their release in the latest distribution event.

The Palkia and Dialga Legendary Pokemon distribution event lasts just a short month, so Pokemon trainers shouldn't wait. The event ends February 28, likely to be followed by another event in March. But how can any Legendary Pokemon event live up to Palkia and Dialga?

Pokemon Sun and Moon, as well as their Ultra counterparts, are available now exclusively on Nintendo 3DS.
