The Pokémon franchise currently has 18 types of Pokémon that you can catch train and battle with. Each type has it's own unique style, moves and traits that go along with the character, making each type interesting in its own way and we are going to focus on the fairly edgy Dark-type.

The Dark-type was introduced in Generation II and brings together many different motifs and styles to fit under its banner. Some Dark-type Pokémon seem sinister and others seem to just be in the type because of their design. One thing's for sure, Dark-type Pokémon have left behind many unanswered questions.

10 Are Dark Type Pokémon Evil?

This one might sound a bit weird, as it's pretty weird to say that all the Pokémon in a certain type are bad or evil but in this case, there does seem to be some merit. A lot of Dark Type Pokémon are or have some characteristics that people would call evil or sinister. This is further backed up by the Japanese name for the type, which is not the Japanese word for dark, it's actually the Japanese word for evil. In Japan, this type is known as the Evil Type.

9 Do Zorua & Zoroark Kidnap Babies

Zorua and Zoroark are two fox-like Dark-type Pokémon that have the ability to create illusions that are exact copies of the real thing and are capable of deluding many people simultaneously and it is confirmed that they are able to take the forms of humans and Zoroark are capable of mimicking human speech. There are a few Pokémon entries that state something similar to the following: "If a normally loud and executable baby suddenly becomes quiet, it might have been replaced with a Zorua."

8 Why Is Mega-Gyarados A Dark Type?

Gyarados is a Pokémon that has always had fans a little perplexed when it comes to the Pokémon types that it falls into. Gyarados looks like he should be Water/Dragon-type. Magikarp are based on the story of a Koi fish climbing a waterfall to become a dragon.

Gyarados is Water/Flying-type somehow and it gets weirder. When Gyarados Mega-evolves it becomes Water/Dark-type somehow, alluding a more aggressive nature.

7 Why Is Alolan Meowth So Cruel?

Meowth is probably one of the most recognizable Pokémon in the entire series due to one of them being one of the most popular characters in the TV show. The Alolan variation of Meowth would probably be less lovable if he was used in the TV show though. This is because instead of being Normal-type like normal Meowth, Alolan Meothow is Dark-type and has the personality to go along with it.

The Pokédex states that Alolan Meowths will torture their prey instead of just devouring them for enjoyment.

6 Does Alolan Raticate Represent Gluttony?

Keeping on this Alolan variation train for a little bit, Alolan Raticate on the surface looks to just be a palette swap of its normal variation. In terms of personality, there is a bit more of a difference though. Alolan Raticates and Rattatas are known for taking their position as big eaters more seriously than their standard variations. They will go out and steal food and hide it, becoming fat after eating so much stolen food and keeping it all to themselves.

5 Alolan Muk Is Nice?

Both the standard and Alolan variations of Muk and Grimer are Dark Type Pokémon and are both created from toxins. This leads most people to think that they are very aggressive Pokémon and you would be correct with that interpretation when it comes to the standard variation. However, the Alolan one is quiet and friendly, unless hungry, but that's fair.

4 Is Scraggy Wearing Pants?

Scraggy and its evolution Scrafty are based on New York gangsters and their personalities reflect that. Scraggys and Scraftys will fight in groups, ganging up against small groups or even singular Pokémon over turf. An interesting thing that also ties back to their influences is that Scraggy and Scraftys seem to be holding up what would be pants and their Pokédex entries state the lower their 'pants' hang the more respect they garner from their peers.

3 Is Hoopa A God?

Hoopa is a fairly unique Pokémon. In its confined state it is Psychic/Ghost-type, but when it is in its unbound form it becomes Psychic/Dark. Hoopa's unbound design seems to be based on a demon and it is known as the Djinn Pokémon. Hoopa also likely takes some inspiration from a deity of the Taoist religion, Nezha.

This god is commonly referred to as a trickster god and is also depicted holding many rings, similar to Hoopa.

2 Why Don't The Zweilous Heads Get Along?

Living with someone you don't like or get along with can be a pretty rough time, as you're probably going to be seeing them a lot. This problem would be a lot worse if you were actually physically attached to the person and not just living in the same building as them. Zweilous's two heads are constantly fighting each other, this causes the Pokémon to be angry and hostile to anything around it. The heads determine who is in charge of the body by the one that eats the most food.

1 Is Malamar Undercover Until It Evolves?

Malamar is a very sinister-looking Pokémon but before it evolves from an Inkay it looks pretty cute like most other first Pokémon in evolution trees. It seems that Inkay might just be deceiving us as Inkay and Malamar have the infiltration hidden ability, possibly meaning that Malamar was only gaining our trust with a cute facade.
