Without a doubt, Pokemon Crystal's launch on Game Boy Color in 2000 was considered by most fans to be a landmark event, as it was not only the first main series game to feature animated sprites for the game's titular Pocket Monsters, but also it was the first game in the franchise to include a playable female character, Kris. Now, fans won't have to wait much longer to relive the title's gameplay–or try it for the first time–as Nintendo has officially revealed its release date for the 3DS eShop as January 26, 2018.

As seen in the announcement trailer below for Pokemon Crystal coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop, fans will be able to visit the Johto region to experience the title's rather unique story involving the Legendary Beast Suicune. Not to mention, the game will also give players the ability to battle and trade creatures with the use of a local wireless network.

In addition to Link Trades and Link Battles, Pokemon Crystal for Nintendo 3DS will also implement the Time Capsule feature, which allows fans to trade and battle monsters from Pokemon Blue, Red, and Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition. Furthermore, it will also be compatible with the Pokemon Bank at launch, and will provide players with the opportunity to encounter the Mythical Pokemon Celebi in an event once the game's completed.

Similar to Pokemon Gold and Silver's availability on the Nintendo 3DS eShop, Pokemon Crystal will set fans back $10 should they decide to give the retro title a go on the company's most up-to-date handheld hardware. Of course, those who have already beaten the game countless times have a reason to avoid double-dipping once it re-releases for the 3DS eShop, but those who have yet to play it should do themselves a favor download it at the beginning of next year.

Pokemon Crystal is set to release for the Nintendo 3DS eShop on January 26, 2018.
