The Pokémon Company revealed its plans to donate $5 million to several nonprofit organizations earlier this year following its successful Pokémon GO Fest 2020 event. This staggering amount is in addition to the $5 million minimum its partners at Niantic has committed to delivering.

Niantic is the publisher and developers of the mega-popular mobile game Pokémon GO. Like The Pokémon Company, its commitment was to provide its donation to a range of nonprofit organizations. These generous donations will help benefit charitable nonprofit organizations that work diligently to improve the lives of children worldwide and represents a "key pillar" of the Pokémon brand's "global philanthropic efforts."

It was noted how these donations and The Pokémon Company's intentions to support the work being done are not a one-off decision, with the company declaring it has long-term plans to support and donate in the future. The majority of the organizations receiving this funding from the company were selected because of their work and focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. To demonstrate The Pokémon Company's ongoing support of the Black community, specific organizations have been selected that support and fund education and mentorship opportunities for Black children.

Pokémon GO Fest 2020 was the fourth GO Fest event for fans of the popular mobile game. However, due to the current coronavirus pandemic, this year's event was forced to pivot into a global virtual experience. This allowed Trainers the unique opportunity to experience what Niantic had planned without having to travel.

Unfortunately, the event would be plagued with a number of technical issues. In an attempt to make it up to the fans, Niantic revealed makeup events were to be hosted which were only available for ticket holders. The first makeup event took place on August 16. Still, it wasn't without its own technical issues, most notably with shiny Unown being disabled.

Recognizing the continued technical problems, Niantic is preparing to host the second makeup event for Trainers in Australia, New Zealand and other parts of the Asia Pacific region. Trainers from these regions will be able to log on between 11 am and 2 pm local time on August 23. Although special habitats and Incense bonuses will take place, other features will not be present. Like with the first makeup event, this will only be available to Trainers who previously purchased a ticket for Pokémon GO Fest 2020.

Pokémon GO is available now on the App Store and Google Play.
