A Pokemon fan is receiving praise after sharing an incredible hand-carved wood statue of the iconic Charizard they created. When it comes to woodworking, most people's experience likely only goes as far as a woodshop class in high school. One fan, however, has clearly honed their skills to a highly professional level, creating an extremely impressive rendition of the Pokemon.

Easily one of the most recognizable Pokemon in the history of the franchise, Charizard is a first generation Fire/Flying dual-type, and is arguably the most common favorite among fans new and old. In addition to its universally appealing design of essentially being a fire-breathing dragon, the creature became even more popular via the anime, where Ash's famously disobedient Charizard would refuse to listen to direction, causing numerous humorous problems.

The incredible Charizard wood carving was first spotted on r/pokemon, created by a Reddit user with the handle of u/DWoodartstudio. The Pokemon statue itself is nothing short of incredible, with a fully-realized three-dimensional Charizard on full display, crafted completely by hand. In addition to what appears to be a completely game-accurate appearance, the wooden Charizard sports plenty of fine detail work, including well-defined claws, facial features, and especially the flame on its tail. While unclear, it appears that the carving may have been done out of one single piece of wood, making it all the more impressive.

The carving appears to be pretty large as well, with the artist posing next to their creation in one of the photos. The Charizard sculpture's natural wood grain finish provides a nice contrast from the usual colored resin figures like First Four Figures' Charizard statue, offering big-spending Pokemon fans another art piece to collect.

While the post has received a decent amount of upvotes, measuring at roughly 1,500 at the time of writing, the comments section is absolutely packed with fans expressing how impressed they are and if the wood Charizard statue is for sale. Fans have also been quick to point out the irony in making a Charizard out of wood, considering the Pokemon's typing. Similarly, another fan recently created an equally impressive figure of the Pokemon out of an equally flammable substance, creating a paper model of Charizard in a retro polygonal style.

Although one of the less common mediums of Pokemon fan art, wood carvings seem to be popping up more frequently as of late. Another Pokemon fan created an impressive Arcanine carving on the lid of a box to store their Pokemon TCG cards. While not a statue, the flat surface carving is still an undoubtedly impressive artistic feat, featuring a bounding Arcanine with a variety of wood tones throughout. With the amount of high-caliber Pokemon art constantly coming out, fans could certainly make their own gallery or museum at some point.
