Lapras is a majestic Water/Ice-type Pokemon that's been around since the first generation of Pokemon and has made a name for itself by being one of Ash Ketchum's main Pokemon in the anime series, at least in the first few seasons. For Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players looking to catch themselves a Lapras, this guide will go over any prerequisites and steps to find Lapras' location in Sinnoh.

Before players get ahead of themselves, they need to be aware that Lapras can only be obtained once trainers become Pokemon League Champions and get the National Dex from Rowan.

Updated on April 18, 2022, by Greysun Morales: Lapras has always been one of the most sought-after Water-type Pokemon in the mainline games. Fortunately, Lapras makes a return to the Sinnoh region in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but players will need to have some tasks completed before finding it. This guide goes over where players can find Lapras in BDSP and has been recently updated to provide more details on the best nature for Lapras, their base stats, and their weaknesses/resistances to keep an eye out for.

How to Get the National Dex in Pokemon BDSP

In order to get the National Dex in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players must first beat the Elite Four and see all 150 Pokemon in the base Sinnoh Pokedex. Once all the monsters have been seen, players must head to Sandgem Town and speak with Professor Rowan. He will then add the National Mode to the player's Pokedex, and new areas will be available for players, as well as "new" Pokemon.

Where to Find Lapras in BDSP

Once Pokemon BDSP players have defeated the Elite Four and obtained the National Dex, they will have access to the area where wild Lapras can be encountered.

The easiest way to get to its location is to first use the Hidden Move Fly to travel to the front of the Pokemon League. Lapras is inside Victory Road, but players need to enter it from the back, or else it'll take them way too long to find where Lapras is exactly.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players should follow these steps exactly to reach Lapras' location in Victory Road, starting from the Pokemon League itself:

  • From the entrance of the League, players should use HM Surf and head south down the waterfall until they reach the entrance/exit of Victory Road.
  • Head inside and follow the path, passing the trainer and going down the rocks using Rock Climb.
  • Don't jump over the ledge here. Instead, go to the left and take the first path north, heading under a small bridge.
  • When players see a trainer, head up the small staircase to the left of him.
  • Cross the path and just follow the path until a door is reached. Go inside the door and then follow the linear path to the next room.
  • This room will have fog, so make sure to use Defog from the HM app.
  • The bodies of water in this room have a 10% chance of having Lapras inside them. If trainers really want this Pokemon, they'll need to just keep Surfing until it appears.

Lapras is a fairly balanced Pokemon when it comes to its stats. Its highest stat is special defense at 95, and its lowest is speed at 60.

As far as what is the best nature for a Lapras to have for competitive battling, trainers will want to aim for something that lowers speed and prioritizes Lapras' best assets, like its attack or special attack. Since trainers are most likely going to use Lapras' special attacks like Hydro Pump and Ice Beam, going with the Quiet nature might be the best route.
