When it comes to the Pokemon video game series, one of the greatest pursuits for players is hunting down shiny Pokemon. Shiny Pokemon are incredibly rare variants of Pokemon with slightly different color schemes than normal, and so they are highly sought after by Pokemon fans. Usually Pokemon fans are happy whenever a shiny Pokemon pops up, but there are some Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players who are finding themselves frustrated by shiny Starly.

At the very beginning of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Pokemon trainers find a suitcase with Poke Balls in it, and that's how they choose their starter Pokemon. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players can choose between grass-type Turtwig, fire-type Chimchar, or water-type Piplup, and then they take whatever Pokemon they chose into battle against a wild Starly.

Some Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players are running into a shiny Starly during this tutorial battle, which isn't good because it's impossible for them to catch it. They have no choice but to fight the Starly until it's defeated, meaning that they are missing out on adding a shiny Pokemon to their collection at the start of the game.

There are Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players who take shiny hunting very seriously, and have been resetting their games endlessly in hopes of getting a shiny starter Pokemon. Since the starter Pokemon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl can only be obtained at the beginning of the game and can't be found out in the wild, this can take hundreds of resets and be an extremely time-consuming task. One can just imagine the frustration that a player might feel after they've reset their game for the hundredth time only to find no shiny starter Pokemon but a shiny Starly instead that they can't even catch.

After players are done trying to get their shiny starter, they can finally continue their Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl adventure. They'll find that Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are very similar to the original Diamond and Pearl games, albeit with a much different art style and some quality of life improvements to make the games a bit easier to play than their predecessors.

Next up for Pokemon fans is Pokemon Legends: Arceus in January, and it's unclear exactly how shiny Pokemon will work in that game since it's making so many changes to the established Pokemon main series formula. Pokemon fans will find out more once Legends: Arceus arrives in January, and in the meantime, they can keep shiny hunting in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
