Nintendo released Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl less than a month ago, but fans of the remastered fourth generation of Pokemon have already begun the endgame content. One player who was chain hunting in order to locate Shiny Pokemon recently wasted their Master Ball on one of the game's most common Pokemon.
Reddit user Oliblue55 recently shared a clip from their YouTube livestream showing their chain hunting, which they admitted went wrong. The clip begins with a simple battle start animation as Oliblue55 encountered a wild Hoothoot. Showing off a Shiny Pokemon that he had already captured earlier in the game, Oliblue55 chose his yellow Luxray to face the wild Hoothoot. Just as soon as the Pokemon battle began, Oliblue55 threw a ball at the wild Hoothoot in order to capture it, but it was the only Master Ball available through Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's main story.
Beyond the recently released Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Pokemon fans have been Shiny hunting since way back in 1999 with Pokemon Gold and Silver. In order to improve the odds of encountering Shiny Pokemon, players like Oliblue55 chain hunt, which is when Pokemon trainers defeat or capture a chain of Pokemon. Although Oliblue55 had been hunting for these Shiny Pokemon for a while prior to his Hoothoot encounter, the one he captured with a Master Ball turned out to be just a standard Hoothoot.
Each Pokemon captured or knocked out brings the odds of encountering a Shiny in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl from 1 in 4096 upwards of 1 in 99. Every step of chain hunting not only increases the odds of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl fans to spot a Shiny Pokemon in the wild, but it also increases the potential stats of those Pokemon. Because chain hunting in Pokemon can require hours of patience, it's understandable why Oliblue55 felt like he was going insane from using his Master Ball on a Hoothoot.
Although Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl fans can acquire Master Balls rather easily, the one Oliblue55 used to capture the wild non-Shiny Hoothoot was his only one. This caused the YouTube streamer to ask if the game was serious before laughing at his own misfortunes. Oliblue55's copy of the latest Pokemon game celebrated his new Hoothoot with the traditional "gotcha!" catchphrase, but Oliblue55 was admittedly on his final straw with chain hunting.
Oliblue55 is known as King Aurelius Gaming on YouTube and he's mostly known for making Pokemon content, but he's also dabbled in Among Us in the past. Because Master Balls can be acquired in various ways, Oliblue55 may be trading with other Pokemon trainers who may have already duplicated the item or using the daily lottery system in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl in order to earn them legitimately. Although he seemed done with chain hunting during his recent stream in which he captured the wild Hoothoot, Oliblue55 remains dedicated to capturing more Shiny Pokemon.
