The Old Rod, Good Rod, and Super Rod have been staples in the Pokemon series since the beginning, and these items are helpful for players looking for rare (or common) Water-type Pokemon that may only live in the ocean, ponds, and lakes. While the Old Rod will mostly give players lots of encounters with Magikarp, it's an excellent way to learn how to fish, and even a Magikarp can be useful once it evolves to a Gyrados at level 20, so don't count it out.

For Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl players that are looking for the first type of fishing rod, the Old Rod, here's where to go to find it in the remakes.

Where to Find the Old Fishing Rod in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Early on in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players will reach a massive place called Jubilife City. It's home to a TV station and many condos, and this is even where players can find a Quick Claw, a held item used to give Pokemon a higher chance of moving first in battle.

If players head out the west exit/entrance of Jubillife City towards Route 218, they will have to go through a small security building with two NPCs inside it.

Pokemon players need to speak with the fishermen to obtain the Old Rod. Players should be able to find a body of water if they keep continuing west on Route 218. The Old Rod won't find powerful or rare Pokemon, but players can easily find a bunch of common Water-types of the Sinnoh region like Magikarp.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players should also know that when a Pokemon is fished out, trainers will still need to battle against it, and then choose to defeat it, capture it, or run away.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available for the Nintendo Switch.
